Expect that a licensed or registered counselor has met the minimal
qualifications as required by State law:
Examine public records maintained by the Board of Counseling Professionals
Licensure, which contain the credentials of the counselor;
Obtain a copy of the Code of Ethics;
Report complaints to the Board;
Be informed of the cost of professional services before receiving services;
Obtain information about their case records, and to have the information
explained clearly and directly;
Expect complete confidentiality except as required by law:
Threat of serious harm to self or others
Reasonable suspicion of child abuse, or abuse of an elderly or any
incapacitated person
Court order
Voluntary release of information, signed by client or legal guardian.
In response to formal complaints filed or legal actions taken against a
counselor And as required by Board rules:
During supervisory consultations.
Refuse any recommended services, and to be advised of the consequences of
this action.
